  • Descrição: Abuelita is a cultured woman, my mother says, not only a patron of the arts in the capital city D.F. but also an artist in her own right. There are pictures of Abuelita all down the hallway between my mother's bedroom and mine, a slender woman in a silk dress and an older version in fur. In the mornings my mother brews a strong pot of coffee in Abuelita's kitchen and tells me stories of her childhood, of the years she spent in this house, of the way Abuelita's mother, Bisabuela, made my mother and Tío Lalo clean before the maid came so no one would think them dirty. Nobody's house was cleaner, my mother says, as she sips from a cup with Frida Kahlo's painted face on it.
