  • Description: Chemist who made magnetic resonance a powerful tool Richard Ernst, professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich), Nobel laureate, and groundbreaking scientist, died on 4 June. He was 87. By working at the interfaces between chemistry, physics, and biology, Ernst opened the door to magnetic resonance of materials, proteins, and nucleic acids. His work on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revolutionized medical diagnosis.
