  • Descrição: Nowadays research on intercultural communication plays a key role in understanding and making easier the processes of globalization of organizations. This article aims at identifying the communication challenges perceived by expatriate managers in countries with different cultures, particularly in the context of Spanish companies located in Tangiers. This territory has been selected because it is one of the Moroccan enclaves with the largest number of Spanish companies, due to its geographical proximity and the excellent infrastructure that it offers. The initial hypothesis is that the communication problems between Spanish and Moroccan middle management executives derive from cultural differences. In order to reach the objectives, managers from both nationalities have completed questionnaires to assess the problems they perceive in the process of interpersonal communication. The results, interpreted in the light of the cultural dimensions of Hofstede, determine that the main problems stem from uncertainty avoidance and power distance. The findings highlight the need to address cultural issues in the training of expatriate managers in order to improve interpersonal relationships that facilitate the international expansion of companies.
