Descrição:
Seventy-five years ago, in the midst of the Second World War, the government formed the Department of External Affairs. That department and its successors, including the present Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, have overseen a foreign policy approach remarkable for the continuity of its underlying themes. Throughout, New Zealand has prioritised safeguarding its national security and seeking international peace, developing commercial opportunities for New Zealanders and preserving the environment and natural resources. In the pursuit of these policy objectives the foundations for New Zealand’s presence and influence in the world have been laid down. The future requires the foreign ministry to keep on keeping on.
