Descrição: Solvent extraction and column chelation for separation and preconcentration of copper from natural waters were compared. Ammonium tetramethylene dithiocarbamate was used for complexation and isobutyl methyl ketone for solvent extraction. Immobilization was with 8-hydroxyquinoline . Higher determinations were achieved by the column procedure, which was also less time consuming and less costly than solvent extraction. Correct pH conditions were essential for satisfactory extraction by both methods.
