  • Descrição: Almost all other major maritime nations in Europe have packages of fiscal and other shipping measures designed to boost both investment and employment, which combine to give them a significant overall advantage compared with British shipping. This is openly and widely acknowledged. Moreover, almost all countries which increased those measures during the latter half of the 1980s have seen a noticeable expansion of their fleets; and most have maintained a younger fleet, at 8-10 years, than Britain.
