  • Descrição: The contribution that Leppert would like to offer here concerns the problematics of articulating the social and personal actuality of wounded subjectivities and unfulfilled desires that interested Freud and found voice, an audible trace, onstage and for the delectation of the audience by way of sonically induced transference. The three operas he considers maintain gestural allegiance to a musico-Freudian language while traversing the border separating late Romanticism from modernism. His argument concerns what he takes to be in the notes, a semiotic immanence, without necessary regard to any particular performance or production whose values may either enhance or mitigate the meanings he ascribes.
