A governing hyperbolic equation is used in a statistical analysis of the ground survey data to determine the cavern location, maximum subsidence, maximum surface slope and surface curvature under the sub-critical and critical conditions. The regression produces a set of subsidence components and a representative profile of the surface subsidence under sub-critical and critical conditions. Finite difference analyses using FLAC correlate the subsidence components with the cavern size and depth under a variety of overburden strengths and deformation moduli. Empirical equations are proposed which correlate the subsidence components with the cavern configurations and overburden properties, allowing prediction of cavern configurations from the subsidence components. Abstract (French): Une methode analytique a ete developpee pour prevoir la position, la profondeur et la taille de cavites creees a l'interface entre une formation salifere et les couches sus-jacentes. Une equation hyperbolique est utilisee dans le cadre d'une analyse statistique de donnees de surveillance du terrain afin de determiner la position de la cavite, le tassement maximum, la pente et la courbure maximum en surface en conditions sous-critiques et critiques. L'analyse produit un ensemble de caracteristiques du tassement et un profil representatif du tassement de surface en conditions sous-critiques et critiques. L'analyse en differences finies utilisant le code Flac permet de correler les caracteristiques du tassement avec les caracteristiques de la cavite et les proprietes des terrains de recouvrement, permettant ainsi la prevision des caracteristiques de la cavite a partir des caracteristiques du tassement.
