  • Descrição: Controversies abound on the discovery of an infant skeleton in the cave of Starosele in Russia in 1953. The cave was allegedly discovered by A.A. Formozov who called for a team of archaeologists and anthropologists to study the circumstances of the discovery. There were numerous opinions on the origin of the infant. Some researchers said that the infant resembled the Neanderthals of the Skhul group. Others suggested the the specimen might be considered a kind of pre-sapiens. Another group of scientists even declared that the skeleton was a model Proto-Cro-Magnon.
