  • Descrição: Most anthropologists would agree that symbolic behavior is one central defining feature of culture. Christopher Henshilwood and colleagues presented evidence that shows that humans used shell beads--artifacts that indicate symbolic rather than practical or instinctual behavior--77,000 years ago at Blombos Cave, a South African site on the Indian Ocean. Other details of the findings are presented.
