  • Descrição: Calvino's experience includes the study of fairy tales and the critical analysis of numerous writers. This article provides an analysis of Calvino's theoretical and practical stance toward fairy tales and the classics, or school and personal anthologies. Examining fairy tales, Calvino identifies a responsibility to teach and entertain as their constituent elements, and defines them as practical life lessons but also an indication of the social order, mentality, and culture of the people who created and transmitted them. The main problem concerning school anthologies is non-reading, conditioned by the enforcement of the selected readings. Calvino thus recommended personal anthologies, based on individual choices and interests, in which a classic opera acquires importance because it is read, reread, and loved forever.
