Descrição:
The present work deals with a new method for evaluating folding type integrals. The method takes advantage of analytical properties of folding involving a δ-function. We discuss the cases for spherical and deformed folding potentials, and, further, we apply the technique to two-particle matrix elements and high rank folding integrals. In this last, considering the four particle diagrams appearing in the cluster expansion of the energy of the α particle gas, we compare the present approach to equivalent Monte-Carlo results. The comparison underlines the large reduction of the computational effort and the gain in accuracy brought by our method. Although our basic motivation arises from problems encountered in the calculation of optical pententials for heavy ion scattering, our method is general and relevant to several aspects of many-body theory.
