  • Descrição: Jacob discusses the potential conflict over Taiwan. He states that a military role for India looks infeasible, but outlines what some plausible means of Indian involvement in the case of a conflict might be. India is unlikely to respond proactively in case of conflict over Taiwan for three specific reasons. One, India's ties with Taiwan itself are not deep or extensive enough yet for Indian policymakers at the highest echelons to think any involvement worth the risk. Two, there remains a significant line of thinking within the Indian establishment that sees the relationship with China as a uniquely important one that needs to be separated from the vagaries of India's other bilateral relationships, including with the US. And three, there remains a general sense of the US as being an unreliable partner that has not fully bought into India's perception of its interests in Asia and the wider world.
