Descrição: Absorption spectra of cobalt azide solutions of ratios [Co 2+]:[N 3 −] varying from 1 : 1 to 1 : 40 were studied in aqueous media in the near i.r., visible and u.v. regions. The structures of the possible cobalt azide complexes were investigated. Formation, as well as, dissociation constants, of the 1 : 1 cobalt azide complex, were computed. An attempt is made to investigate the effect of the nature of ligands on energy level splittings of the Co(II) ion in a simple octahedral field.
