  • Descrição: Archaeological work was fully incorporated as a material consideration into the planning system across the UK in the early1990s to manage the impacts that development may have upon the historic environment. The majority of this work is undertakenon undesignated sites (not protected by listing or scheduling) in which the scale, quality and significance of the archaeologicalresources are often unknown fully before it is considered in the planning process. Therefore, development managementarchaeology plays a key role in the delivering of the nation's successful construction developments. This report presents the results of research conducted by Landward Research Ltd for ALGAO:UK, on the archaeology sectorin developmental management and its contributions in England, Scotland and Wales. It is divided into several sections: one sectionexplores the positive impact the existing system makes on the sector and beyond. The second examines how successful theexisting system is and whether it is delivering the process it was created for. The report ends with a methodological description.
