Descrição: Xavier Deru, Het graf van Ronchin. Een gallische hulp- soldaat in vreemde grond. In het graf van Ronchin, in Menapisch gebied, omvat de graf gift een zwaard en daarom neemt men aan dat het om een hulpsoldaat gaat. Aan de hand van het keramiek- materiaal kan men uitmaken dat hij gestorven is na de burgeroorlog, tijdens de regering van Augustus (10 voor tot 20 na Chr.). Hij is waarschijnlijk afkomstig van de middenvallei van de Loire. Bijna aile keramiek is uit die streek afkomstig, wat zeer verschilt van de lokale pro- ductie. Men kan zo denken aan een hulpsoldaat die in de vreemde gestorven is op grond die hij wegens zijn ver- dienste gekregen had. La tombe de Ronchin, sise en territoire ménapien, compte parmi sa dotation un glaive et c'est pourquoi elle est considérée comme celle d'un auxiliaire. Un nouvel examen du mobilier céramique permet maintenant de mieux cerner cet homme. Au niveau chronologique, il serait mort après les guerres civiles, durant le règne d'Auguste (10 av.-20 ap. J.-C). Au niveau des origines, il viendrait de la moyenne vallée de la Loire. En effet, la quasi totalité de la céramique provient de cette région, ce qui est en contraste avec le faciès céramologique local. Dès lors, on peut y voir un auxiliaire mort sur des terres étrangères obtenues par mérite. Xavier Deru, About the Ronchin grave. A Gaul auxiliary in a foreign land. The Ronchin grave, situated in Menapian territory, counts amid its artefacts a sword and this is why it is regarded as that of an auxiliary. A new analysis of the pottery findings now allow to understand better this man. From the chronological point of view, he might have died after the civil wars, during the reign of Augustus (10 B.C. - 20 A.D.). From the point of view of his origins, he might have come from the middle Loire valley. Indeed, the near totality of the pottery comes from this area, and is in contrast with the local pottery. Hence one can assume that he is an auxiliary who died on a foreign estate gained through his merits.
