  • Descrição: The latest studies on the provincial coinages of Nerva, Trajan and Hadrian have greatly advanced our understanding of the scope and scale of cistophori issues under the Roman Empire, as we can now reconstruct how this production unfolded and changed from the reign of Augustus to the first part of the 2nd century AD, when it wks embraced by numerous cities across Asia Minor. The last segment of production in the early Severan age, following a significant hiatus under the Antonines, has also been the subject of a thorough investigation by Metcalf, based on a die-study of all the specimens known in 1988. His work provided important insights especially into the structure and the metrology of the Severan production: this can be interpreted as a largely coherent group of issues minted in a relatively short time, from around AD 198 to 202.
