  • Descrição: There is a dearth of scholarly literature that examines representations of singing characters, particularly female singers, in contemporary teen film. There are three recent changes in relation to female singer charac-ters that are apparent in four contemporary teen films: Todd Graff'sBandslam (2009), Jason Moore's Pitch Perfect (2012), Todd Graff's Joy-ful Noise (2012), and Elizabeth Banks' Pitch Perfect 2 (2015). The firstchange is that the teen female character now sings in public and onstage. She is the "emotional performer" rather than the "musical con-noisseur." The second change is that she is represented in all fourfilms as more modern, progressive, and innovative than her male peers. The third change is that she not only sings but may also play the electric guitar on stage.
