  • Descrição: At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, China was undergoing a transformation in its thinking about the future of its economy, its drivers and its relation with the world economy. The early days of Covid-induced lockdowns had impacted demand everywhere and had created unforeseen challenges for governments across the world. For China, it was a double whammy since along with economic implications, Covid brought about questions regarding China’s government and its tendency to suppress information and to cover up facts. Many believe that Covid could have been handled differently had China chosen transparency over information control in Wuhan in November and December 2019 (Buckley, 2020).
