I worked for Harry Bitner at Columbia when I was a student in library school. He was a most gracious man who provided me with insight, training, and support for my career in law librarianship. Morris Cohen had just started his rotating "Law Library Institutes," and I had the pleasure of attending the first one which was on legal research. 1 When I got there, I asked Morris if I could take my final exam orally because of my poor writing. He agreed and said that he would get back to me about when the exam would occur and who would give it to me. Along with Morris, the faculty consisted of Marian Gallagher, Mort Schwartz, and Harry Bitner. About two days before the exam, Morris told me that Harry would give my exam. If you don't think that the fear of God went through me, think again. I knew Morris, but I don't think I had ever said three words to Harry.
