  • Descrição: The collection of East Asian coins at the American Numismatic Society (ANS) is one of the most important in the world, including over 29,000 items from China. This collection was built mostly in the early decades of the twentieth century. This article discusses the role of Henry A. Ramsden, a coin dealer based in Japan, along with the collectors Howland Wood, John Robinson, and John Reilly, Jr., in the formation of the ANS collection of Chinese coins. One portion of this collection, purchased by the ANS from Ramsden, can be traced back to the Chinese antiquarian and official Luo Zhenyu.
