  • Descrição: Results from studying the kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of ferrocenylmethanol FcCH 2 OH with the participation of iodine in protic and aprotic solvents demonstrate the ability of I 2 to act as an oxidizing agent with and without the participation of strong acid HClO 4 . The possibility of ferrocenium cations forming upon the protonation of FcCH 2 OH is due to characteristic features of the oxidation of the metal complex, compared to its oxidation with the participation of p -quinone, which displays oxidizing properties only in the presence of acids, and the oxidation of ferrocene with the participation of iodine, which contains no functional groups capable of protonation.
