Soil samples were obtained of six profiles, five derived from volcanic ash and one from alluvium. These represent two great groups and one additional suborder in southern Chile. Subsamples were then exposed to different heat treatments after which wettability, residual carbon, and ether extracts were measured. The Dystrandepts had the highest resistance to wetting originally and that was increased by heating at low temperatures. The Palehumults and the Psamment had little resistance to wetting and it was increased only slightly by heating. If samples were subjected to extreme heat, water absorption rates were greatly increased. The absolute and relative ether extracts were increased by heat treatments. Furthermore, the higher the ether extract of a sample, the lower was its wettability. Bodenproben von verschiedenen Bodentypen, vorwiegend entwickelt aus vulkanischen Aschen, wurden verschiedenen Hitzegraden ausgesetzt und dann deren Benetzungseigenschaften, Rest-C-Gehalt und Aetherextraktgehalt bestimmt. Dystrandepts haven eine hohe natürliche Benetzungshemmung, die nach geringen natürliche Benetzungshemmung, welche durch Hitzebehandlungen stark zunimmt. Palehumults und Psamments haben eine geringe natürliche Benetzungshemmung, welche durch Hitzebehandlungen nur geringfügig erhöht werden kann. Unterliegen die hier untersuchten Böden extremen Erhitzungen, so nimmt die Wasseraufnahmegeschwindigkeit stark zu. Böden, die Hitzebehandlungen ausgesetzt sind, weisen eine relative und absolute Anreicherung der Aetherextrakte auf. Je höher der Aestherextrakt in einem Boden ist, um so geringer ist seine Benetzungsfähigkeit. Gleiche Aetherextraktgehalte bei verschiedenen Böden erlauben aber keine Schlüsse über deren Benetzungsfähigkeit.
