  • Descrição: Seedlings of rice (Oryza sativa L.) were subjected to five levels of Na(2)CO(3) stress (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 raM) to assess effects on photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence and antioxidant enzyme activity. With the increasing of Na(2)CO(3) concentration, chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate and water use efficiency decreased gradually; Potential activity and maximal photochemical efficiency of PSII significantly reduced; Activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase and catalase increased first and decreased afterwards with the increasing of Na(2)CO(3) concentration. Total absorption area and active absorption area of root significantly decreased; Electric conductivity, MDA and proline content increased with the increasing of Na(2)CO(3) concentration. In short, low levels of Na(2)CO(3) induced activities of antioxidant enzymes and high levels of Na(2)CO(3) inhibited rice growth.
