  • Descrição: This Note presents an experimental study of the evolution of the macroscopic cohesion of granular materials containing a saturated solution of sodium chloride. The evaporation of the solvent leads to the crystallization of the solute and thus to the progressive cementation of the material. The compressive strength is used to evaluate the cohesion of cylindrical granular samples. Two distinct regimes of cohesion are highlighted: a capillary regime and a cemented regime. The transition between the two regimes is not directly related to the amount of crystallized solute, but rather to the ratio of the mass of crystallized solute to the total mass of solute present in the sample.
