  • Descrição: Despite an ever-expanding wealth of information on the late fourth/early fifth century and the surge of archaeological data collected in the last twenty years, the Coleraine Hoard remains the crowning jewel of Roman material so far discovered in Ireland (Plate 2) – but what can its makeup and the ever-changing discussion over how it came to be in a field just a few miles from the River Bann infer about Romano-Irish relations? Could it be the result of more intricate political interactions than 'trade and raid', recruitment into the Roman army or even Irish settlements on Roman land? The Coleraine Hoard may help back up the idea that Ireland was much more connected to the Roman world than is usually thought.
