Descrição: The Bank of Canada's sixth annual research conference, held on 26-27 October 1996, had as its theme "Exchange Rates and monetary Policy." It focussed on a wide range of international topics running from broad policy questions, such as a feasibility of a single currency of North America, to more specific financial market concerns, such as alternative hedging strategies for dealing with foreign exchange risk
The conference, divided into four main sessions, also included a special presentation by Ronald McKinnon of Stanford University and apanel discussion with three other moted Canadian economists: Paul Jenkins from the Bank of Canada, Paul Masson from the International Montary Fund and Daniel Racette from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales. Each of the main sessions concisted of two papers, one presented by econmists from the Bank of Canda, and the other by outside academics. These were followed by comments from two designated discussants and questions from the floor
