Descrição: Theotokos (“The one who gave birth to God”) is an epithet of the Virgin Mary. Its use was challenged by Nestorius on the grounds that no created being could give birth to God, but endorsed at the Council of Ephesos in 431 for soteriological reasons, namely because Jesus was both God and man.
