  • Descrição: Mendes-Flohr examines requiems for mandarins of Jerusalem. Typically, the mandarins felt that they had a responsibility towards the polity, but one best pursued at a meta-political level, above the fray and cacophony of party and parliamentary politics. Indeed the mandarins had little patience or appreciation for the practical dimensions of politics. They would offer guidance through expounding those values and ideals illuminated through Kultur, and by the example of their personal commitment to those values and ideals. Ideas have no copyright, they are not to be treated as commodities to be weighed, priced, and its provenance duly labeled before being sent to market. In the spiritual universe of genuine intellectual discourse, ideas are ideally to be shared freely, to be nurtured by further reflection and to give birth to new ideational configurations and insights.
